A Sower Went Out to Sow

Matthew 13

A sower went out to sow,
Spreading his seeds around.
Some fell into fertile soil,
Some fell on rocky ground.
Some fell in among the thorns, and
Some were eaten by the birds.
That's the story of the sower,
Spoken by the Lord,

Can you save your soul?
Can you make the seed grow on your own?
Can you take the rocks and thorns away
From a heart that the Lord has never known?
No, it takes a gardener,
It takes a lot of love to make seed grow.
The moral of the story has always been,
It takes Jesus to save your soul!

Preacher condemned my soul,
He said, "You are thorny ground.
"You'll never get this seed to grow,
"With these distractions all around."
I said, "Let me tell you how the story goes,
"As the Holy Ghost taught me,
"Let me tell you 'bout the rocks and the thorny ground,
"And the birds, and the sower, and the seed."

Did the ground ever say to the thorns growing in it,
"Remove your roots from my soil"?
Did the rock ever say to the soil it knows,
"I'm gonna move over yonder so you can grow"?
Did a hungry bird ever up and flee,
When the soil said, "Don't you peck at me"?
Did the downtrodden path ever turn itself over,
Say, "Now I'm fine, and the seed will grow"?
No, if you're the soil,
You've got to cry out to the Lord above,
"Lord, take the rocks and thorns and chase the birds away,
"You are the Gardener of love!"

Can you save your soul?
Can you make the seed grow on your own?
Can you take the rocks and thorns away
From a heart that the Lord has never known?
No, it takes a gardener,
It takes a lot of love to make seed grow.
And the message of the Book is everywhere the same,
It takes Jesus to save your soul!
