Week of November 7, 2004
Worked on more chord sheets for some of the secular songs, but mostly practiced a 20-minute set I had planned to play at an open mic night at a coffeshop I ran across on the web (The Next Door Coffeehouse). I had stopped by after work one day and talked to George there, and was looking forward to playing, only problem is, their open mic night is Friday night, and by the time Friday rolled around, I was just too tired and brain-dead to play well. I do plan on making it there "someday", just have to get a huge amount of sleep during the week to do it.

Finished "There Lies the Cross" score, but probably won't post it on the site until I get it at least submitted for copyright registration, and it's too late in the year now; makes more sense to submit after Jan 1st for a 2005 ©date. So I'll probably try to finish up a couple more songs by then and submit a three-song collection at the first of the year.

More work on "There Lies the Cross," found that I'd made a real blunder and saved a copy in the "final" folder, then went back later and edited the one in the "work" folder, and now both of them are different than the copy in the "backup" folder! AARRGH! So now just sorting out which measures are right in which one, then I have to figure out which file to stick with and finish up the editing. Nearly done, though.
Week of October 17, 2004
More work on "There Lies the Cross" score, and started typing up chord sheets for many of the secular songs. CCLI sent a notification they had accepted my owner agreements, but still might take 4-5 weeks to "process the songs," whatever they mean by that. Should have an official CCLI catalog soon, though. Just need to get more songs finished up now.
September 17-October 16, 2004
Finally got the CCLI package mailed off, got a notice they had received it September 28 but it may take up to twelve weeks to process! So it may be the first of the year before I've got an official catalog on CCLI. Some more work on "There Lies the Cross" score, almost finished but mostly either very tired or just feel like playing piano after work; yard and remodeling work on the house on weekends. Still committed to my "winter of songwriting," though, just starting a little closer to actual winter than it seemed at first.

Son Jeff was in the hospital for a week, a nasty staph infection in a cut on his leg that could have been very serious indeed, but people in our lives prayed and it just stopped getting any worse the day he went to the hospital. Still took 4 days of intravenous antibiotics and bed-rest to knock it out, though. There were news stories the day after he left the hospital how these highly resistant staph strains are causing much worse problems, even death, for many people, so we praise God that His hand was on our son for healing.

My Winter of Songwriting
This is only September, not technically winter yet, but I'm ready to settle down ond get some stuff finished, written, and polished up. I feel pretty sure it's the leading of the Holy Spirit to commit this entire winter to songwriting. Any recording, audio posts, or performing will probably be put on hold for awhile. Please do check back occasionally for new sheet music, though.

Finished revising html for the PayPal/PayLoadz connections and assorted other updates. Uploads completed and sales went online Labor Day, September 6th. Have to get the CCLI agreements notarized and signed, otherwise package is ready to submit. Whew! Now that all that's over, I can get back to concentrating on songwriting!
Got "There Lies the Cross" written in Allegro - will pick it up again in a couple of days, check for errors, etc, then then will probably finish up a couple of other songs, submit them as a package to the copyright office, then after a couple of weeks post them on the site.
Week of August 29, 2004
Vacation, family visits, and celebrating my father-in-law's 80th birthday in Florida. Left a day early because of Hurricane Frances; no report of major damage from Deb's parents or their friends and relatives.
Week of August 22, 2004
Continued putting together and uploading the song packages for PayLoadz sales; revised the main song index to include PayLoadz buttons, payment links, etc.
Week of August 15, 2004
Continued putting together the song packages for PayLoadz sales.
Week of August 8, 2004
Received and printed out the CCLI agreements, still have to read through them all, but should be sending off the package by mid-week or so. Updated quite a few chord sheets to include in the CCLI and Payloadz packages and updated all my PDF files in Acrobat with book marks, basic security, file info, etc.
Week of August 1, 2004
Still waiting on the CCLI agreements package. Spent more time putting together product packages for PayLoadz and seeing what needs updating.
Week of July 25, 2004
Finished! "Cry Unto Me" score and lead sheet. Spent the week putting together a package to send to Christian Copyright Licensing international (CCLI) and waiting for their agreements to sign and send in. Hopefully, within a week (month?) or so, will have the beginnings of a catalog licensed for church use via CCLI. Also started putting together product packages (PDF music scores and church packages of lead sheet + chord sheet + projection lyrics.) for PayLoadz (an affiliate of PayPal that lets you sell and deliver digital goods online).
Week of July 18, 2004
Finally got back to the "Cry Unto Me" score, played it through several times and made a few changes; not really errors, mostly just reordering chord notes in the left hand to play a little easier. Once again, by the time I get this one finished, I think you'll probably see this score as the first item sold instead of given away off this website.
Week of July 11, 2004
Finished! Voice and piano score for "Cry Unto Me" in Allegro - at least all the notes and lyrics are there. Still have chords, expressions, etc. to put in, but what I'll do now is set it aside a few days, then play through it and mark up the places it didn't get written quite like I normally play it, make corrections, then add the chords, expressions, check the spacing, etc. Thinking seriously of making this the trial piece for SELLING on the site via PayPal, both because it's a great song (bragging on the Lord who gave it to me, not me), and because it's been a LOT OF WORK!
Late week - my birthday, a couple of fishing trips. No fish, mainly 'cause we're not early risers and know we fish the wrong part of the day, but still just enjoy being on the water anyway.
Week of July 4, 2004
Recorded Every River, Speak Forgiveness in Sound Studio. Too many mistakes on Every River, will try again later. Didn't realize Speak Forgiveness was such a long song with all the repeats; posted both the long version and a shorter version cut down in Sound Studio.
Week of June 28, 2004
Very tired all week, a little work in Allegro, mostly just played and sang for practice, but that was rough.
Week of June 21, 2004
- Wednesday, June 23, just as I pulled in the driveway from work, got the start of a new song - "Have You Got a Piano." Pulled together some chords and a few more words, and made a very rough recording of it in Sound Studio. I'm loving this little program more and more, the more I work with it! Took the somewhat overly long, very rough recording, cut and pasted some of the parts that sounded OK, and came up with a fairly decent track of the song.
- Recorded The Work of the Cross; Grace, the Grace; and A Child of Yours to Sound Studio on the Mac. Once again, not intended to be great recordings, just one-shot tracks laid down with keyboards and vocals at the same time, so people can get some idea what the songs sound like. Posted Have You Got a Piano, A Child of Yours, and Grace, the Grace mp3's; decided I could do better on The Work of the Cross, so that one's not on the site yet.
- Continued "Cry Unto Me" in Allegro...piano mostly there except very end; needs a little polishing, lyrics. Created and posted a couple more Powerpoint files (Cry Unto Me, The Work of the Cross in Me); a lttle work updating a couple of chord sheets.
Week of June 14, 2004
Started "Book of Remembrance" in Allegro...piano mostly there but needs polishing, repeats, etc. Worked some on "Cry Unto Me", updating the music to more like I play it now instead of the handwritten copyright submission (1990).
Tried updating a weblog I had started months ago, then THREW AWAY the iBlog software, gave up on it. Loses entries and won't publish correctly to anywhere but Apple's .Mac internet server, which I've decided not to pay for.
Week of June 6, 2004
Started "About You Blue" in Allegro, piano RH mostly there but LH needs work. Website work- Added dried mud (cracked adobe?) graphic to main background.
This is my cheap text version of a weblog. I've started it not so much because I think anyone else might actually care, but more to encourage myself by (hopefully) recording some progress to look back on later. After months of getting very little done in the way of composing, my brain finally feels like it's settled down in a groove where I'm ready to get some work done! If you don't see new stuff posted here soon, please send me a kick-in-the-pants email to keep me going.
