  • "Old Kermit Cowboys" (5:15, 6 mB). For my father. Kermit is a treeless town in West Texas where my grandfather ran a grocery store for a few years. My mom still has the old 8mm films of a freckle-faced kid doing amazing tricks on the back of a paint pony. John and Gene Haley are the progeny of author J. Evetts Haley, who ran a ranch outside of town. The recording is simple voice and piano, more-or-less live in the home studio.

BROADSIDE, the Backyard Naval Battle Game

This is a game I started working on in 1996 and revisit it once in a while. Recently I described it to a few family members and they thought is sounded pretty cool, so here it is (NEW to the website). I've got some preliminary rules (html or PDF) fleshed out, but haven't actually built one of the ships, so I'm not even sure it will work like I think. Working on some sketches of the ship construction and intend to get a prototype ship built this winter. Comments welcome, email broadside(a)jbcmusic.com.
