The Visitors
Debra L. Clifton 1992
We came to visit you today,
but you were not really aware.
We had to cover our true presence from fleshly eyes,
for it would be too much for you to bear.
We did not wear expensive clothes,
or emit a successful spiritual air.
We simply adorned ourselves with humility and gentleness,
so as not to cause a stir.
A simple Hello would have sufficed,
Perhaps an Are you new here? would have been nice.
Instead you were too busy,
Its the Sabbath, you know;
A day to press further into the things of the Lord,
And help ourselves spiritually grow.
I understand you have a committee assigned to greet people like us,
One with a burden for the lost,
or at least people who look like us.
If only you had taken the time to see us as we are.
You obviously didnt keep your spiritual eyes
opened very far.
The Father has heard your prayers,
He gave us the answers to convey,
when you had seen us and asked us to your church to stay.
Instead we admonish you in the one commandment
Jesus said to obey:
Love one another.
The answers you have sought must return with us today,
Now continue to exhort one another to pray.
If only you would have received us,
just a kind word from one, or a smile,
You would have entertained angels;
We were sent to minister for awhile ... pray and watch!
