Open Mic at Wolfies

Outstanding music, fun time

Hey, the Dec. 4 open mic sponsored by The Woodlands Music Co-op at Wolfies in The Woodlands went VERY WELL!  First, the Jesse James Band were very good as host band (a little raucous toward the end), the open mic talent was OUTSTANDING, much better than I expected, and I personally did - well, OK.  I did 3 blues songs, - “Sing Out the Blues,” “Port City Blues,” and “Lord, Don’t Float My House Away” all in the key of F by coincidence.  My piano playing wasn’t quite as clean as I’d like - I always feel rushed on open mics with limited time, but people seemed to receive the songs OK.  My “roadie” Jeff and my “groupie” Deb were a huge help and encouragement, Jeff’s friend David dropped by, and we all had a good time.  Wolfie’s garlic wings are scrumptious, too.

It’s still a pain to lug the keyboard out for 3 songs, and I hate the time limitations of open mics (but of course see the point of it), but overall, I think, a good experience, and I’ll do it again.  Thanks to Richard Harris and The Woodlands Musician’s Co-op, the Jesse James Band, and Wolfies for a great job of hosting.  I probably won’t make it next time, but they’re having another open mic/songwriter night on December 18th.
