Live Music - Spare Parts Band

Live music at Swanny’s Grill, Houston

More live music - Deb and I went to hear the Spare Parts Band live at Swanny’s Grill last Friday.  I would recommend both the band and the venue.  SPB covers a huge variety of styles - tending toward pop and dance standards, not much country but one OK cover of Mary Chapin Carpenter.  As an ex-tenor sax player, I really enjoyed saxman Dan Carpenter - blew me away with an all-stops-pulled version of The Pink Panther (yes, Henry Mancini’s movie theme).  Every member of this band is a solid talent, and they really hit the groove as a group.

Swanny’s Grill at Swanson’s Golf Center is a pleasant place to eat and listen to music.  The food’s pretty decent for the price and served on an outdoor patio backdropped with trees, a stream, and a lush driving range.  What’s good for us “old folks” is that the music goes from about 7 to 9 or 10 PM instead of starting at 9 or 10 like a lot of bars.  If you’re going out for a burger anyway you might as well enjoy the live music they try to have every Friday that the weather’s good.  If you’re a golfer and want to hit a few balls within earshot of live music, even better.  We enjoyed it.
